University of Edinburgh
The centre of Edinburgh betrays a stunningly beautiful capital city, with castles, Greek temples, and plenty of imposing buildings. Up at George's Square and the King's Buildings are the main buildings of the University of Edinburgh, which are less imposing, and generally less attractive than the Edinburgh you see on arrival at Waverley Station (one hour east from Glasgow by train).
However, looks aren't everything, as Edinburgh is one of the top universities in Scotland and the UK, and George’s Square can really buzz with student activity during term times. The first-year accommodation beneath Arthur's Seat ensures the first year is spent with stunning views!
Notable graduates from the University of Edinburgh include scientists Alexander Graham Bell and Charles Darwin, authors Arthur Conan Doyle and Robert Louis Stephenson, and British Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
