University of Bristol

The University of Bristol lies just off the main shopping street in Clifton, arguably the grandest suburb in Bristol and about a fifteen minute walk from the centre of town and the train station (half an hour east from Cardiff, two hours west from London).

The university spreads itself about the suburb, with the Student Union a five minute walk from the main central area and the eye-catching Wills Memorial Building. It feels like, and is, a large university, but is generally a very sociable place to be, perhaps because of the proximity of so many bars and restaurants on the university’s doorstep.

Famous old boys and girls include author Angela Carter, illusionist Derren Brown, and a number of comedians, such as Matt Lucas, David Walliams, Simon Pegg, and Chris Morris.

"I chose Bristol because of the vibrant student life around the college. The centre for sporting excellence helped, but one of the main reasons to attend Bristol was the awesome Law College. One of the top 3 universities for law at the time. Sadly, bits of my law have faded in the memory banks, but the mates, fun times in the SU and around town are very clear in my mind. Great times and all in all a wonderful time." Kyran Bracken, Bristol University
